Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 59 cent and 35 cent scanning?
The professional "59 cent service" covers corrections by a trained Photoshop operator for color, exposure, saturation, and precision cropping; the "35 cent special" is an automated service intended for those who wish to edit the original scans. For both levels of service, we scan your slides, negatives and photos exactly the same - there is no difference in the scanning process.

What is the turnaround time for Scanning and PHOTO DVD Slideshow orders?
Our policy is to process your order within 2-3 weeks. If you have a more urgent need, please give us a call and we will make every effort to meet your deadline.

Do you batch correct or use automated software?
NEVER. We go over each photo individually in Photoshop and make the necessary corrections. During the scanning process we do not use GEM or ROC automated correction software. It simply provides inferior results ... some photos are greatly improved, others end up looking dramatically worse. No approach provides better results than a skilled Photoshop operator making corrections based on the specific flaws of the individual photo. Equally important each and every photo is corrected. We do not simply correct the poorest quality photos - we enhance each and every photo.

Do I need to orient or position my slides for you?
This is not necessary. We will make sure to scan the correct sides of the slides when we organize them for scanning. It is also not necessary to spend your time coming up with an exact number of slides, photos, or negatives you have. Our computers will generate these numbers when we process your order. We are about making it easy for you and saving you time.

Why do you charge more for TIFF files?
TIFF files require more archiving space and the process of transferring files and copying to CD or DVD is more time-consuming. Almost all our clients, including professional and corporate clients, request JPEG files and we do not consider it appropriate for them to carry the added cost of TIFF files. As with all our services we do not charge for the original CD or DVD media.

How can I evaluate the quality of your scanning service?
Try our service for FREE. Simply mail us a few slides, negatives and photos and we'll show you what we can do for you. And the test is absolutely free. There is no truer test of what we can do for you than having your very own photos scanned and/or edited by us and then seeing the results for yourself.

What scanning resolution should I select for slides and/or negatives?
If you are simply viewing your images on a computer or TV monitor, and/or making prints up to 5x7, then a scanning resolution of 2,000 dpi is fine. If you are making prints greater than 5x7, then you should select 3,000 or 4,000 dpi.

How should I organize and pack my slides?
We make it easy for you. Organize and pack them the way you'd like - wrapped with elastic bands, in the original carousels or trays, in Ziploc bags, in plastic sleeves. Do want works for you.

Will the images on a DVD be viewable on my television?
Some DVD players will enable you to view image files on your televsion set but most will not. In order to view your images on a television, we will need to create a DVD slideshow for you. The cost to do this is $45.00.
